Coul House Hotel is a beautiful country house that offers comfortable and relaxing hotel accommodation in a secluded spot in the hills above Contin, Ross-shire. Centrally located in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, it is the perfect place to base oneself to rediscover all the romance and beauty of the area – certainly a destination where one should plan on staying for more than just a couple of nights!
Although all of the rooms are en-suite, most of the bathrooms are quite dated. We do, however, pride ourselves on their cleanliness and abundant supply of hot water. There are 18 twin/double and 3 singles, 4 of the hotel rooms are on the ground floor, the other 17 are on the 1st floor up two sets of stairs. Regrettably, there is no elevator. All the hotel bedrooms have en suite facilities with bath/shower combined, television, tea & coffee making facilities and beautiful views of either Strathconon and the mountains beyond or the rear lawn and mature woodlands. As with any old house all of the bedrooms are different sizes and shapes, this is also true for the en suite bathrooms.
We have two types of rooms, small doubles and large double or twin rooms, the latter having beds made up with zip & link method giving you a choice of a king or twin beds. With both of these room types you have either a garden-view over the parking area and entrance or the preferred mountain-view over the lawns at the rear of the building to the mountains of Strathconon. Many of our repeat guests have their favourite room, whether it for its accessibility to the outside to let the dog out or for the commanding views down the glen.
In the northern Highlands, we believe Coul House is the perfect place for a wee break. With miles of wooded trails for hiking or biking, secluded lochs for kayaking or fishing, glorious glens with magnificent views, ancient forts and castles, gardens and galleries, boat trips, battlefields and bothies, there is certainly a plethora of things to do. The biggest challenge will be deciding how many days to stay!
