The Edinburgh Ritz Hotel was originally built as a town house in the 1860s right on the edge of Edinburgh's historic New Town in the heart of the city. After a spell housing the Scottish Coal Board the building was converted into a boutique Hotel by Mrs Elizabeth Paterson. She worked extremely hard for almost 50 years seeing the Hotel through the good times and the bad.
With an eclectic taste and an eye for detail she decorated every area in its own unique style, much of which can still be seen today. The Ritz was one of the first hotels in the city to offer all guests an en suite facility. Every effort has been made to retain the original features, including the beautiful cornices, rose crowns and staircases, whilst simultaneously providing guests with all necessary mod-cons.
Handed down through the family the Ritz is undergoing a new lease of life through the eyes of Betty's Grand-daughter Holly and her husband Chris. The emphasis is very much on keeping an individual and unique touch and real focus on good old fashioned hospitality, as has always been the way.
All rooms in the hotel are en suite. All are individually decorated and furnished, many with four poster beds. We strive to retain the original period features of the rooms whilst acknowledging the need for mod-cons such as flatscreen televisions. Please note that the hotel does not have a lift, and rooms are over 4 floors. Please contact us before booking for availability of lower floor rooms if required.
We offer a range of facilities to ensure that our guests stay in comfort. These include a bar and lounge in which to unwind, a baggage store, ironing facilities and a lock up facility for bicycles. For our more business-minded guests there is internet access, a photocopier and printer. For our younger guests we have cots and high chairs available. Please note that this is an old building and unfortunately we have no lift. Please see Accessibility Information section below for further details.

All prices quoted are on a Room Only basis however we do offer a continental style breakfast at a cost of £2.50 per person per day. In addition, a full Scottish breakfast is available at the weekends at a cost of £6.95 per person per day.These options are available as booking extras when booking your room or else you are free to decide on the day whether you'd like breakfast or not.
Rates: £40 per person per night.
