Built in 1742 and opened as an hotel in 1949 the Castle has been owned by John and Shirley Sloggie for the past 8 years.
Over the years the hotel has built an enviable reputation in the Scottish Borders. It has been recommended in the Good Hotel guide since 1997, is recommended by Conde Nast Johansens and boasts one of only 2 restaurants in the area to hold 2 AA rosettes for its restaurant.

Our bedrooms include 2 romantic suites with double baths, four poster bedrooms, deluxe rooms and standard rooms.
Dining : At Castle Venlaw we have a well deserved reputation for being one of the best places to eat in Peebles. The AA have awarded us 2 Rosettes for our food for 4 consecutive years and we have enjoyed good reviews in various publications.
At lunchtime we offer the same menu in the library or restaurant and you can choose anything from a snack to a 3 course meal. In the evening dinner is served in the restaurant.
After a hard days sightseeing, golfing or simply relaxing what could be better that a pre-dinner drink in the book lined library before dinner in the restaurant. All our meals are freshly prepared and, whenever possible, we use quality local produce.
We are aware that some of our guests have special dietary requirements and, whatever they are, we will make sure you have a meal you can enjoy.
Castle Venlaw is the ideal base whether you want to walk, cycle, fish, bird watch, golf or just relax in our beautiful surroundings. It is also the ideal base for guests wishing to visit Edinburgh the cosmopolitan capital of Scotland.
Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the rich agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages.
