Auld Kirk Restaurant with Rooms, Ballater, Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire

Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, within the Cairngorms National Park, the Auld Kirk is a fine example of a Victorian Scottish Free Church building.
In addition to being a fabulous place to eat the Auld Kirk is a great place to stay. Whether you are searching for a relaxing weekend, a base for touring the highlands or a venue for a special celebration , the Auld Kirk has a team of experienced staff who strive to provide a high level of quality and service. Having only six letting bedrooms enables us to provide a very personal service to our guests. All our bedrooms are on the first floor and all have now been fully refurbished. We provide a range of guest amenities in each room including refreshment trays, iron and ironing boards, hairdryers, televisions, direct dial telephones with voicemail and, in the majority of rooms, wireless internet access (bring your own laptop). Broadband is also accessible in the bar and on the outside terrace and is free to resident guests.
Dinner is served in the ’Spirit Restaurant’. The high vaulted ceilings, cathedral windows and ornate chandeliers provide a unique and elegant dining experience in which to enjoy great food and wine. Our waiting staff are efficient , very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We will let you enjoy your meal without distraction, but be available when you need us. Dinner is served from Tuesday to Saturday from 6.30pm.
Carefully blending the old with the new the Kirk Bar provides a stylish and interesting venue to relax and socialise. The bar counter (hand crafted from antique pew ends), contemporary lighting, the original (if modest) baptism font and a good selection of fine Scottish single malt whisky all add to the ambiance.
The Kirk Bar Terrace allows customers to make the most of the Ballater sunshine, (weather permitting) and even bring the dog.
The bar has a full hotel licence and is open from 10 am daily.
A wide range of activities and interests can be found on our doorstep. Scenic walks begin 100m from the Auld Kirk, ranging from a gentle stroll along the banks of the river Dee to an energetic climb up Craigendarroch Hill, or through the Pannanich forrest where deer, red squirrels and the elusive and now rare Capercaillie can be found.
For those wishing to be a little more adventurous Balalter is surrounded by stunning peaks such as Lochnagar, beautiful forrests and sporting estates including Balmoral and Glen Tanar and of course lots of water.
To assist in exploring this amazing part of Royal Deeside, mountain bikes, cannoes, fishing equipment etc are all available for hire in the village.
