The Bar Convent, York, North Yorkshire

The Bar Convent offers comfortable hotel accommodation located in the centre of York in North Yorkshire. The hotel is England's oldest convent, founded in 1686 and still active with a resident religious community.

There are a range of guest rooms at the hotel including 2 superior rooms which were designed by Olga Polizzi - of the Forte hotel dynasty.

Although most of our rooms are now en suite, we also offer a number of rooms with access to shared bathrooms, for those travelling on a budget. All of our rooms have modern flat screen TVs and have benefited from extensive refurbishment over Summer 2015, including the installation of several brand new en suite bathrooms.

Sitting rooms with TVs are located on the first and second floors as well as there being a small snooker table and a selection of board games in the recreation room.

Guests staying at the hotel can enjoy The Bar Convent Café which is well known for its relaxing atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and secluded garden. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea, snacks or something from the takeaway menu.

Breakfast is served in the café from 7.45am - 10.00am Monday to Saturday and from 8.15am - 10.00am on Sundays. There is a continental style breakfast available that includes juices, cereal, toast, croissants, yoghurt and fresh fruit. There is also a full English breakfast available for an extra £5.50 per person.

Unlike many other accommodation providers we also offer fully equipped kitchens for guests to use which are ideal for evening snacks when you just feel like a few home comforts during your stay. This is particularly useful for families with small children or business travellers who want the facilities a home would provide.

Our location is also a real winner, we’re just around the corner from York railway station and next to the historic city walls at Micklegate Bar, making it an easy five minute walk into the city centre.
