The Abbey provides first class bed & breakfast accommodation at competitive rates in the centre of the attractive town of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. Whether for business or pleasure, the hotel is ideally located in a pleasant residential street located in the Central Cheltenham Conservation Area. It lies beside the pretty Sandford Park, and is just a brief stroll from the town's many shops, restaurants, theatres and bars. There are 13 comfortable bedrooms, and the hotel is run smoothly, in a friendly and welcoming manner by the staff and resident owners, Sophie and Greg. All rooms have flat screen digital TVs, direct-dial telephone, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities. Iron and trouser press available. Breakfast is made from quality ingredients. A hearty cooked traditional English breakfast is offered (with vegetarian alternatives). Also available are cereals, freshly baked croissants and bread rolls, yoghurts, home-made fruit compote, fresh fruit and fruit juices. As there is a wide choice of proper restaurants, pubs, cafe, tearooms and take-aways within easy walking distance of the hotel, we do not pretend to be nor wish to be treated as a restaurant. However, we do understand that some people travelling by themselves may prefer not to eat out alone, and for these people only, we offer light snacks, such as soup, filled baked potatoes and sandwiches. Cheltenham began its transformation into Cheltenham Spa in 1738, with the discovery of Old Well (the famous Cheltenham Ladies College now occupies the site) In 1788 King George III came to take the waters, and soon Cheltenham was Britain's most important spa. The most eminent architects of the day created a new town of stately squares, sweeping terraces and broad avenues. The salty alkaline waters can still be tasted at the beautiful Pitville Pump Room. In the heart of the town lies the Promenade, lined with elegant shops, statues, trees and flower beds. It encapsulates the genteel image and complements the superb 18th century architecture of Britain's most complete Regency town. Although the fine architecture, gardens, flower displays and museums are an essential ingredient of the town, time has not stood still in Cheltenham and there are many other attractions. The wide variety of quality shops makes Cheltenham a popular destination for shoppers. There are numerous festivals, good theatres and excellent nightlife to be found in the restaurants, bars and night-clubs. The Abbey is ideally situated to allow guests to enjoy all this. Chelteham town centre is not large, and all of these features and attractions are within comfortable walking distance of the hotel. Rates : From £42 to £90 per room based on 2 people sharing. Family room from £100 per room per night. Children are welcome. No smoking. Sorry, no pets.
