The Dales Country House Hotel, Upper Sheringham, Norfolk

Enjoy country house comfort at The Dales, a lovingly restored former rectory with 20 luxurious rooms and a fine restaurant set in secluded grounds on the edge of a quiet village.

Slip effortlessly into the comforts of the English countryside at The Dales, hidden away in beautiful parkland. Here you will be welcomed, cosseted, well fed and refreshed by staff whose careful attention makes a stay a pleasure.

From breathtaking views from your room to afternoon tea in the lounge, there are many little details that are the hallmarks of a relaxing break away. With fine food and wine, luxurious bedrooms and well-tended gardens, you will soon relax into the delights of this English country house.

Whether you want to explore the Norfolk Broads, visit the coast or just enjoy our extensive grounds, a stay at The Dales is a special treat.

With just 20 rooms, The Dales is more like an elegant country house than large hotel. All the rooms are different, each with their own character and style.

Many of the rooms retain original features and fireplaces. Oak furniture has been specially commissioned and beautiful fabrics selected to make each a comfortable and restful place to stay. In each en-suite room you will find other welcoming touches: such as your own little bar and beds turned down before you retire for the night.

Superior rooms give you more space, a coastal or garden view, DVD and CD player. For the ultimate in comfort, our Deluxe rooms have extra features, such as a four-poster bed, a balcony overlooking the garden or a spa bath.

On the ground floor are the garden rooms, with level access to the outside and the rest of the hotel. Here you will find a more contemporary look to furnishings and fittings and your own private terrace.

Standard Rooms : Every room is comfortably furnished and has a newly updated bathroom en-suite. Although the style is largely traditional and many original features have been retained, you will find all the comfort and convenience of a modern hotel, including television and telephone.

Deluxe Rooms : Our deluxe rooms have extra features that further enhance your stay, perhaps a four-poster bed, a balcony overlooking the garden or a spa bath.

Superior Rooms : Superior rooms have more space for you to sit and admire the view and overlook the gardens or the coast. In addition to television, you will have DVD and CD player for your added benefit.

Garden Rooms : On the ground floor are the garden rooms – Pipistrelle and Barbarelle with level access to the outside and the rest of the hotel. Here you will find a more contemporary look to furnishings and fittings and your own patio.

Our AA rosetted restaurant is named after the local lords of the manor who would certainly have been welcome guests at The Dales in its heyday as a private house.

North Norfolk is a chef’s paradise with local game, fish and fresh produce readily available. They provide an excellent starting point for an imaginative menu with choice to suit everyone and the variety to encourage a longer stay. Our chefs make their own bread and have acquired a reputation for their home made biscuits served with coffee or afternoon tea.

Before your meal, you can relax in the comfortable Kings Bar or, in summer, you may prefer to take your drinks and canapés on the lawn. To accompany your meal, we have a selection of fine wines carefully kept in the cellar.

The Dales lies in its own sheltered grounds on the edge of the quiet village of Upper Sheringham. Sheringham Park next door, which was laid out by Humphry Repton and now looked after by the National Trust, is much visited for spectacular displays of rhododendrons and azaleas in season.

Just a couple of miles away you will find the North Norfolk coast, with its sweeping beaches, magnificent walks and renowned bird reserves. Inland, fine houses, pretty villages and leafy lanes are yours to explore.

The nearby market town of Holt is home to fascinating shops, galleries and cafes. Further afield the medieval city of Norwich is now rated in the top 10 best shopping centres in England.
